Learning Sustainable Lifestyle Skills

How to Make...
A Clay-Earth Oven!

A warm fire brings people together. A wood-fired oven is often the centre of family and community, a centuries old way of cooking and sharing good food together. Making a traditional earth oven together is a way to rekindle the fire of community and provide a bakery resource for the centre.

We will:

Learn from different traditions, (N.American, European, African),
Gather, prepare and work with rock, earth and clay,
Build a man-sized heat sink base from stone and shingle,
Construct a dome with sand and clay.
Bake some bread!
A practical experience for people who are interested in living more self-reliant and sustainable lifestyles.
Dates: Venue:
3 or 4 day Workshop
Cost: £150, plus food and accom.

A renewable energy wood-fired earth oven is a traditional means of cooking if all else fails. When people and friends gather together it is also a means of sharing a most natural cooking experience.

After this workshop you will know how to design, build and use your own earth oven and appreciate the magic that goes in, and comes out of this wonderful resource.

You will also have great opportunities to enjoy fine walks and beautiful countryside, appreciate the centre and what it offers, share fireside entertainment, discover more about yourself and natural sustainable living.
